Working with multimedia in any other module

One way to add multimedia to Vitalware is to create a record in the Multimedia module and add the media file to that record.

Another, very simple method, is to drag and drop one or more media files on to the Multimedia tab in any other module. For each dropped file, a record is automatically created in the Multimedia module and attached to the current record.

Note: Depending on your system's Multimedia Registry settings and the type of media you are adding, Vitalware will automatically generate various resolutions and extract metadata, etc.

When viewing a record in Details View:

1. Select the Multimedia tab.

2. Select one or more media files you want to add to the current record and drag and drop the file(s) onto the Multimedia pane:

   

   For each dropped file, a basic record is automatically created in the Multimedia module and attached to the current record.

To view a newly created Multimedia record in the Multimedia module (perhaps to add details, such as a Title):

1. Select the media in the Multimedia pane.
2. Click in the Multimedia Tool bar:

   

   The Multimedia module will open and display the record.

1. Open the record to which you want to attach a multimedia resource.
2. In Details View select the Multimedia tab:

   

3. Click Attach Multimedia from the Multimedia Tool bar

   -OR-

   Select Multimedia>Attach Multimedia from the Menu bar.

   The Multimedia module displays in Search mode.

4. Search for the multimedia record or records which you wish to attach to the current recordThe record currently displayed in Details View or highlighted in List View (there is a faint dotted line around it). It is only possible to have one current record at a time..
5. Select the record or records:

6. Click Attach Current Record to add the current multimedia record

   -OR-

   Click Attach Selected Records to attach more than one selected multimedia record.

   The Multimedia module closes and the multimedia resource(s) is / are added to the current record.

7. Save the record.

1. Locate the record to which you want to add multimedia, and in Details view select the Multimedia tab.
2. Open the Multimedia module and locate the record or records you want to attach.
3. To attach the current record, click Drag Current Record and drag and drop on the Image pane of the other module

   -OR-

   To attach one or more selected records, select the record(s), click Drag Selected Records and drag and drop on the Image pane of the other module

   -OR-

   Select one or more records in List View, click a selected record (any one will do) and drag and drop on the Image pane of the other module.

   

   A thumbnail for each attached multimedia resource displays in the multimedia window.

Detaching a multimedia resource from a record does not delete the multimedia resource from the Multimedia module.

1. Locate the record with an attached multimedia resource.
2. In Details View select the Multimedia tab.
3. Select the resource to be detached (if more than one resource is listed in the Image pane).
4. Click Detach Multimedia

   -OR-

   Select Multimedia>Detach Multimedia from the Menu bar.

   A warning message displays requesting whether you wish to detach the multimedia record.

5. Click Yes to detach the multimedia record.

   The resource thumbnail no longer displays.

6. Save the record.
